ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr has given his support to the RSPCA ACT’s special ‘In the Dog House’ event on Saturday 21 March 2015.
“In the Dog House is a new fundraising event developed by RSPCA ACT to raise much needed funds and awareness of the RSPCA ACT shelter and conditions our animals are faced with daily,” said RSPCA ACT CEO Tammy Ven Dange, who will also be heading to the dog house.
In the Dog House aims to have some fun with the concept of spending time in the dog house as punishment for having done something wrong in real life.
“We’re asking the Canberra community to nominate someone who deserves to be in the dog house – be it their husband, wife, partner, friend or boss – and by raising a minimum of $500, the minimum fee for adopting a puppy from the shelter, their nominee will spend at least an hour in the dog kennels. The more money they raise, the longer they might stay in the dog house,” continued Ms Ven Dange.
Nominees will need to raise funds by 19th March, with the event taking place at the RSPCA ACT Shelter on Saturday 21 March. Throughout the day there will be a range of activities that animals in the shelter would experience such as going for a walk, playing with toys and snack time.
Participants will include local personalities from the media, business and sport. Event ambassador Chief Minister Andrew Barr encouraged the community to get behind the appeal.
“We aim to raise $50,000 to assist in providing our services such as the daily care of animals, veterinarian treatments and our animal welfare inspectors in the Canberra community. So we’d love people to block out their diaries for 21 March and get nominating for In The Dog House,” Ms Ven Dange concluded.
Nominating someone for In the Dog House is an easy three step process.
